SUBJECT: College Credit Plus
College Credit Plus is Ohio’s program that enables students to earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking classes on a college campus or at the student’s high school if offered.
In order to participate in College Credit Plus for the 2017-2018 school year, the following steps must be taken:
1. The student and a parent/guardian must attend a College Credit Plus informational session to decide if this program is right for the student. Our informational session is scheduled for Wednesday, March 8th, at 6 p.m. in New Boston’s school cafetorium. New Boston is co-hosting this session with East High Community School. If unable to attend this session, you must attend a session at one of the following locations:
March 6th at Portsmouth High School at 6 p.m.
March 6th at Portsmouth West High School at 6 p.m.
March 9th at Clay High School at 6 p.m.
March 9th at Nortwest High School at 6 p.m.
2. Take the ACT or Accuplacer placement test (Accuplacer must be taken at Shawnee State in the Student Success Center, Massie Hall) and score college-ready in the subjects you want to take courses in. Times for drop-in Compass testing are:
Tuesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (test must be started by 3:00 p.m.)Thursdays from noon to 8:00 p.m. (test must be started by 6:00 p.m.)Saturday, March 18th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (test must be started by noon)
Saturday, April 1st from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (test must be started by noon)
Note: There is a limited number of computers; first-come, first served basis is followed.
The student must know their social security number in order to take the Accuplacer placement exam.
Note* If taking the Accuplacer during school hours, you must let Mrs. Kasper and your teachers know the day before and turn in any work that is due while you are out. You must bring in your test results the next day for this to be considered an excused absence. Otherwise you will not be able to make up any work during the absence.
3. Submit a Letter of Intent to Mrs. Kasper by April 1st. This Letter of Intent does not obligate you to participate; it simply means that you plan to participate.
4. Fill out the Shawnee State College Credit Plus application packet (available at www.shawnee.edu on Feb. 20th (type college credit plus in search box) and give it to Mrs. Kasper by April 7th. Mrs. Kasper will take the packet along with your high school transcript (last grade card for students in grades 6-8) to Shawnee by April 14th.
